'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith renews battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the dramatic closing stages of his team's stunning fightback win against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles after the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range shot from distance, and Cameron Burgess immediately converted the deflection before sprinting toward the home end to revel in the moment, with the crowd congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

This completed an unbelievable comeback given the team had trailed 2-0 midway through the second half. In the celebrations, there was some collateral damage. Galbraith explained, "There was a spectator trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win earned a upcoming fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had arguably the best view when the underdogs took the lead in stunning style, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. It seems unfair that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that distance," commented Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right defensive wing after the team changed formation. That meant facing off against City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way the underdogs played positively.

City's Quality

"Physically they are outstanding but even the basics and simple things, they can just perform consistently," he explains. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they know how to control and neutralize a game. You can believe you're doing well and then without warning they will just thread a ball through a line without you even noticing. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and attention just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to secure him in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has quickly achieved similar status in his new home. At the London club he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a temporary move at lower division Salford City, before he moved on from his boyhood club.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There's not many hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

International Recognition

He has shown that growth for his team and nation, excelling for his national side, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the past five games, including both legs fixtures against a football powerhouse. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

It has been a remarkable path for the kid from the local area in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his parent, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

Galbraith's sole appearance for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to the Kazakh capital, where they featured on an plastic turf and the arena covering was closed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "It was a extended travel and it was chilly," he recalls, chuckling. "The preceding week, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged a teenager? "It was relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I understood I wasn't going to make it at the top level. I'm hugely grateful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I believed I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly climbing the ladder."

New Environment

This occurs during the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at the early evening: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the 24-year-old was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself a teammate, the Brazilian, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to socialize with the teammates but I'm aiming to be the following person to stop using the bus and driving. Franco is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on London's Central line after starting his journey at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
