Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations show the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior political figure commented the incident made him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
